My Minister of pop culture has long ago informed me that even though I'm getting a bit frosty on top, and my vision is diminishing a bit, that I should keep abreast of the tides that keep our populace awash in silly entertainment. Even though I don't track the trends or trivia, or know any of the minutia that often filters to the bottom from whence many of the reality shows and their ilk seem to feed and breed, this seems kinda' important. http://tv.yahoo.com/blog/conan-o-br I love the idea that his letter is a bit snarky but, maintains the truth of midnight. This quaint technicality is a 'gotcha' moment that even older viewers can easily agree with. Liminality aside though, and he is right. It would be the 'Tomorrow' show at 12:05! Still snarky, and "ginger", and I absolutely love his absurd hair. It's very silly and is almost the single most important reason to have watched the show, if I ever had.

Fix it The holidays are over and we're headed into crucial weeks in the kitchen fight. Management needs to know we're counting on them to fight for key fixes in the final kitchen access bill. Can you call your representative at 423.505.1300? Moving faeries in action (There--that's my political post for the day)

A new year and decade has begun and though still tinged by the economic downturn of the two previous years, Mid East war escalations among other issues, it is without fear that we as a nation move forward. The late The late eighties were filled with the run up to the first gulf war. The nineties had us bracing in fear of the 'Y2K computer bug'. This last decade, which I honestly don't know what to call it-- the 2K's maybe?--,was a decade filled with much dread again. I will restrain my version of a recap of the decade but, it didn't seem to end with media telling us that our next decade should be approached fearfully again. Yes, change has arrived but, I believe that we have tired of the siren song of fear and are beginning to take responsibility for our singular and collective fears. Not to say that none exist, or that we have a panacea in the current administrations Pandora's box of "change" but, we are better prepared since we are without false resolve, or hope. Nor have we been lulled into a false sense of security, and thus forget past mistakes. We are ready. We are the next 'great generation. It's taken much time but, we seem to still be learning. "Time is the school in which we learn. Time is the fire in which we burn." Delmore Schwartz |

Keep in mind that I live in 'dog years'. I should have known the 'Urb-Di' would have a much more poetic word or phrase. (*Sigh) http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.p

Imagine that me and the wife are effective gift-shoppers during the holidays because we are so very opposite. It's either lump o' coal or something pretty cool depending on what we think you deserve. (Many of you get coal this year by the way.) Being finished with the shop-tastic part of shopping is just part of the thing though. There's all the wrapping-sorting for travel or shipping, and sometimes adding the Christmas cards to certain gifts as well, just to be more efficient. So yeah, I got all that to do now, since we finally got the shopping all done. Blee. I'm looking forward to getting a subscription to "Scotland" magazine but, I don't think anyone took me seriously so I may have to get that for myself 'cause we're going and I don't plan to be just another 'ugly American'. Besides, if I do this right it should be a business trip that we can write off on taxes for the next year. I want to do a house swap for 2 weeks but, I can't imagine our Scottish counter-parts coming here and dealing with our 'cat-zoo'. (I can dream.)

Call me and leave a message please!--(Or maybe place an order for cookies!?) 423.505.1300 work/cell but, I'm at home in Ga. all week. Yea! Don't stalk me on the internet please, 'cause I'll be trying to get my game on, or maybe lookin' at some trannies, and won't be thrilled about the interruption --s'okay? Btw, it's casual so yes-- pj's are fine, and 'byob' since I don't stock or tend bar. Yes, I'm bi, but No, I/we don't swing. Love the flattery of flirting though. (Winks!) Must love cats. Recently I have crossed over from student to teacher within my faith group. That means I didn't notice that I've 'jumped the shark' somewhere along the way! One thing that I constantly reminded my charge was that, we all have something to learn, and we all have something to teach. This meant that I would be learning from him along the way as well. He scoffed at this notion at first until I pointed out that he had difficulty learning certain things that I had to teach simply because he chose not to notice that I was simply doing the thing---until it was blatantly put before him, and he was made to observe. I learned patience. |

The phrase "clown shoes" , for me, speaks of things that go wrong--so very wrong that you just have to laugh and point. My clown shoes have been on for all of this week but, its hard to appreciate this moment since I'm living it. And maybe a plumber. Out the door again to begin my next week---hopefully, these cursed clown shoes will get off my feet! |
